Our fun filled, free, family focussed science day this year is on Saturday 14th November

The main event is taking over Otley Courthouse from 10am to 4pm and this year there is also a very special event “Touch The Moon” at Otley Library and extra activities at The Bookshop on the Square as well.

Activities you will find at the Courthouse include:

• Become a Disease Detective! Complete four hands-on pathology challenges: build a bacterium, investigate cells, look down a microscope, play poo-themed games! This will be in the robing room
• Enjoy mind-bending maths, build giant shapes using Polydron and make pop-up cards.
• Explore physics through hands-on demonstrations, discovering how we identify stars’ composition, understand randomness and investigate thunderstorms, with ideas for creating your own demonstrations at home using everyday items.
• Return of the robots! See how logic and creativity can be used to turn simple concepts into impressive creations and have a go at using remotely controlled static stationary robot arms.
• Discover how radios work – listen and speak live to radio operators around the world!
• Take a Virtual Reality trip 5,000m to the top of the world and see the Himalayan glaciers
• Hands on vintage photography: make and take home a cyanotype, one of the oldest types of photos or ‘blueprint’

As mentioned, alongside this Otley Library will be holding a very special event “Touch the Moon” including a poetry workshop at 11.30 and craft activities (more details shortly).

In addition The Bookshop on the Square will be doing a space themed Storytime at 11 o clock aimed at younger children.
