Otley Science Festival 2016 – Events for Local Primary Schools

Tuesday 8th Nov: 9.30am, 11am and 1.30pm

 Body Tricks
Join the science expert from the BBC1 One Show, Dr Marty Jopson, as he shows you the Bubblology_2peculiar things you didn’t know you could do with your own body. From the physics of breaking wood with your bare hands to illusions that mess with your brain.You may think you know what your eyes can see, and have complete control over your body, but you can be fooled. A show that gets the whole audience involved in physics, maths, psychology and biology to illustrate the human body’s 

£4 per child. Years 3–6, KS2.


Wednesday 9th Nov:  9.30am, 11am and 1.30pm

The Jack and the Beanstalk Show


Join award-winning science presenter, Dr Sarah Bearchell, to investigate the strange science behind the familiar fairy tale. We’ll be making something disappear, investigating magical beanstalks, creating clouds, getting gloopy with some intestines and maybe even eating gold!

Are you ready to shout? Oh no you’re not! OH YES WE ARE!

£4 per child. Years R-2, KS1.


Thursday 10th Nov:  9.30am, 11am and 1.30pm

Heavy Metal Marine Biology

blowfish1A regular TV face, the Blowfish – the world’s ONLY Heavy Metal Marine Biologist – presents his rocking countdown of the most amazing marine critters, including puking, hunting and murder most horrid. The Blowfish will explain how physics and chemistry interact with some insane biology to create some of the most amazing creatures on Earth. Along the way we are going to need some metal music and serious audience participation. So hold onto your ears and strap in your stomachs…. it’s going to be a bumpy ride! 

£4 per child. Years 3–6, KS2.


 All shows run for 1 hour. Places are limited, so please book early to avoid disappointment.
